Be Seen in 2013!!

Attention, Columbia-Montour Council Packs, Troops, Crews, and Post:

We are announcing the beginning of a challenge that will last at least through October. Here's what you do:

·         Every time your unit participates in an event, does a service project, goes somewhere, or experiences something incredible, let the world know about it.

·         Send digital photos by email to the local news papers (Press Enterprise, Danville News, even Times Leader)

o   Make sure the photos are clear, sharp, and show ACTION. Color is great.

o   BSA uniforms (field or activity), if worn, should be worn correctly.

o   Send caption material (unit number, names, places, etc.) Get parental approval for using names first—use the Part B Talent Release Agreement on the Health and Medical Record. Check with the individual publication to find out what they want.

o   If you could, adding "Want to join us? Go to www.BeAScout.org " would be helpful.

o   See if you can get a staff photographer to come to your event.

Give them plenty of advanced notice so they can arrange their schedules.

o   If you think it might be accepted, call a local television station or radio station to have them give a synopsis of the event.

o  If it's an event that the public might want to attend, give a couple weeks' notice. Be sure to list date, day, place, event, rain dates, etc. (in other words, the 5 W's and an H) Let newspapers, radio stations, TV stations know (via community calendar)

·         Then when you find your unit in print, send the Scout office a copy (or a recording of a TV or radio spot—ask them.)

·         At the end of October we will tally the results. The top-performing unit will win a prize (to be determined). STAY TUNED: more information to come soon. But get going on your activities and photos.  Let the world know Scouting is FUN!
