You are invited to participate in Columbia-Montour’s  2nd Annual Rube Goldberg Challenge®  2015. As you probably know, a Rube Goldberg® machine is a contraption involving several steps to achieve a single discrete task. They are named in honor of their creator, Rube Goldberg, a Pulitzer Prize cartoonist.  Here is an example of one of his zany cartoon contraptions:

The Challenge will be held Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Beveridge Family Life Center (gym) of First Baptist Church, Danville. Start time will be 9:00am.

Deadline for registration is March 20, 2015 with a 7-day grace period until March 27. Registration fee before the deadline is $50, and late fee during the grace period is $60. The first 15 teams of up to 4 students who register may participate, and will design, build, and display for judging their creations. The Challenge is open to students in the following grade levels: Grades 1-3, 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Area science and math teachers and scientists will do the judging. This project makes an excellent STEM project, involving problem solving, creativity, teamwork, precision, and a rudimentary application of physics. Above all, they’re fun.
